    Albert Lea Tiger athletics, Tiger Wrestling taking the border battle beating the Austin Packers 59-13. Tiger girls basketball defeated by United South Central 67-28. Tiger boys Hockey took no gruff from La Cresent-Hokah at the City Arena giving up just 12 shots while peppering La Cressents goaltenders with 57 in route to a 12-1 victory. Tonight both Boys and Girls basketball teams are in action. The boys will host Faribault while the girls will hit the road to take on Faribault. Both games get underway at 7:30.

    In other area action, Alden-Conger Glenville-Emmons Girls won 72 to 63 against Kenyon Watamigo. Alyvia Newman and Macy Mattson led the Knights each with 27 points.

    The Austin Bruins are hosting the Watertown Shamrocks in a two game series that gets underway tonight at Riverside Arena. Faceoff tonight and tomorrow is set for 7:05.

    Marcus Johansson scored twice, Matt Boldy had a goal and two assists, and the Minnesota Wild beat Dallas 5-2 on Thursday night, ending the Stars" 11-game point streak. Joel Eriksson Ek had a goal and an assist, Zach Bogosian also scored, and Vladimir Tarasenko had two assists as Minnesota won its second straight after a two-game skid that followed its 12-game point streak (10-0-2). Filip Gustavsson stopped 16 shots. The Wild will next host Ottawa on Saturday.

    The Minnesota Frost Women"s professional hockey team, and 2 time champs will play tonight at Grand Casino Arena when they host Boston at 7 pm.

    Minnesota visits the Golden State Warriors after Anthony Edwards scored 40 points in the Timberwolves' 108-105 loss to the Phoenix Suns. Anthony Edwards is listed as questionable for the Wolves as he is suffering from a foot injury. Edwards is averaging 28.7 points and 3.8 assists for the Timberwolves. Julius Randle is averaging 21.0 points over the last 10 games. Tipoff is set for 9 pm

    Albert Lea Tiger athletics, Tiger boys Swim and Dive is in Northfield for a 6 pm match up. Tiger Wrestling will zip across I 90 to take on the Austin Packers at 7 pm. Tiger girls basketball in action tonight as they host United South Central at 7:30. Tonight POWER 96 will bring you Tiger boys Hockey as the Tigers take on La Cresent-Hokah at the City Arena.     The Wild have hosting the Dallas Stars on tonight as they open a 4 game home stand at Grand Casino Arena. That game gets underway at 7 pm.

    The Timberwolves still off until Friday when they visit the Golden State Warriors.

    Braden Smith had 15 points, 12 assists and six rebounds, and Trey Kaufman-Renn added 14 points and 10 rebounds before departing early Wednesday night as No. 6 Purdue blew out Minnesota 85-57. Jaylen Crocker-Johnson led Minnesota with 17 points. Cade Tyson scored 15 as Minnesota shot a dismal 35.7% from the field and was even worse, 6 of 25, on 3-pointers. Minnesota: Returns home to face Texas Southern on Sunday.

    Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy is coming off his best game and Minnesota"s defense has played very well the last two weeks. With the Eagles reeling, the 6-6-1 Cowboys still have a shot to win the NFC East. But they have to win out and it starts against the 5-8 Vikings on Sunday Night Football. The Cowboys are last in the NFL in pass defense, allowing an average of 255.2 yards per game. They"ve given up 7.42 yards per pass play, the third-worst rate in the league. The Vikings fielded their full starting lineup on both sides of the ball for the first time all season even better, is the fact that they emerged with no new injuries of significance or aggravations of existing conditions.

    Albert Lea Tiger athletics, Tiger boys hockey were defeated by Rochester Lourdes 5-2. Tiger boys basketball were downed on the road by the Austin Packers 76-68. Tiger girls basketball was rescheduled to early January due to weather. Tiger teams are off today.

    The Minnesota Twins won the No. 3 pick in the 2026 MLB Draft. The draft lottery was held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, and the Chicago White Sox ended up getting the number 1 overall pick.

    The Timberwolves are off until Friday when they visit the Golden State Warriors.

    The Wild will host the Dallas Stars on Thursday night as they open a 4 game home stand.

    From 2015 to 2022, Gopher volleyball was a regular at NCAA Regionals. For the first time since that run of eight straight NCAA “Sweet Sixteens", they"re going back. The Gophers won their way through a subregional at home last weekend to advance to this weekend"s Pittsburgh Regional tournament. This is the deepest playoff run in Gopher head coach Keegan Cook"s three years at Minnesota. Seeded 4th, the Gophers play the region"s top seed Pitt on Thursday at 6pm.

    Albert Lea Tiger athletics, Tiger boys hockey will be in Rochester to take on Lourdes tonight at 7 pm. Tiger boys basketball is on the road to face Austin at 7:30 and also POWER 96 will bring you Tiger girls basketball as they host the Austin Packers. Sports Director Dave Nelson will take to the air just after 7 pm. On Tuesday, 5 Albert Lea Seniors signed their letter of intent to continue their sports and educational careers. Andrew Tscholl signed to play Cross Country at Bethel University. Charlie Irvine signed to play Football and track at Northwestern Iowa. Hanna Austinson signed to play Hockey at the University of Massachusetts / Amherst. Keira Erickson signed to play Hockey at St. Mary"s University. And, Calleigh Noble signed to play Hockey at Lake Forest College.

    Mark Williams had 22 points and seven rebounds, and the Phoenix Suns overcame Anthony Edwards" 40 points to snap the Minnesota Timberwolves" five-game winning streak with a 108-105 victory. Edwards shot 15 for 21 and Julius Randle had 21 points, but the rest of Minnesota"s top players struggled. Naz Reid was 2 for 12 off the bench and Jaden McDaniels and Donte DiVincenzo both went 1 for 7.

    Rudy Gobert was having a good night until he was ejected in the third quarter for a flagrant foul. He finished with 15 points and eight rebounds. The Timberwolves are now off until Friday when they visit the Golden State Warriors.

    Joel Eriksson Ek had a goal and two assists, and the Minnesota Wild scored three times in the third period to beat the Seattle Kraken 4-1. Marcus Johansson, Kirill Kaprizov and Vladimir Tarasenko also scored to help the Wild snap a two-game skid that followed a 12-game point streak (10-0-2). Filip Gustavsson stopped 23 shots to help the Wild snap a two-game skid. Kaprizov had an empty-netter for his 18th goal of the season with 1:15 remaining, and Tarasenko added another 24 seconds later to seal the Wild's win. The Wild now have a few days off before hosting the Dallas Stars on Thursday night as they open a 4 game home stand.

    Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O"Connell said, perhaps for the first time all year, that there are no new injury concerns heading into Wednesday"s first practice of the week. The Vikings next play at Dallas on Sunday Night Football.

    Monday Night Football saw the LA Chargers hang on for a 22-19 win in overtime over the Philadelphia Eagles. Both teams are still in playoff contention.

    Albert Lea Tiger athletics, Tiger boys hockey defeated Rochester Century Saturday 5-2. Tiger varsity teams are off tonight, but a full slate of action is on tap for tomorrow.

    The Austin Bruins came into the weekend fighting for 1st place in their division against the Bismarck Bobcats. By the time the weekend ended, both team still tied for first after a weekend split. The Bruins took game 1 on Friday night, winning 3-2. Bismarck and Austin filled nets on Saturday night the Bruins went into the 3rd period ahead by 1 goal, but the Bobcats notched 2 in the period to escape with a 5-4 win leaving both teams again tied for first in the Division. This weekend, the Black and Gold will welcome in the Watertown Shamrocks for a 2 game series starting Friday night.

    The University of Minnesota football team has accepted an invitation to play in the Rate Bowl on Dec. 26 in Phoenix. The Gophers will face New Mexico at 3:30 p.m. CT at Chase Field. The game will air on ESPN. It will mark the first meeting between Minnesota and New Mexico. The Rate Bowl will be Minnesota"s 26th all-time bowl appearance.

    J.J. McCarthy threw a career-high three touchdown passes in his first turnover-free game, returning from his latest injury absence in prime form for the Minnesota Vikings in a 31-0 victory on Sunday that sent the Washington Commanders to their eighth straight loss. McCarthy went 16 for 23 for 163 yards in his seventh NFL start, after sitting out last week in Seattle with a concussion. McCarthy targeted his tight ends for all three scores — the first two to Josh Oliver and the last one to T.J. Hockenson. Jordan Mason had a touchdown run, as the Vikings leaned on him and Aaron Jones to gain 162 yards on 34 rushes. The Vikings visit the Dallas Cowboys next Sunday night.     The Minnesota Timberwolves bring a five-game winning streak into Target Center Monday night, looking to avenge not just a loss to Phoenix, but the loss. Up eight with under a minute left in the desert, and the Wolves somehow managed to complete every item on the “How to Blow an NBA Game in 60 Seconds” checklist. Tipoff for the revenge game is set for 6:30.

    A Late night start for the Minnesota Wild as they face the Seattle Kraken tonight in Seattle. This is the first meeting this season between the two teams. Faceoff is set for 9 pm.

    Albert Lea Tiger athletics, Tiger girls hockey who rank 8th in Class A took on Mayo in Rochester last night and left with a win, improving their record to 6-2 and shut out Mayo 8-0. Tiger boys hockey hosted Mayo at the City Arena and after falling behind, the Tigers scored 4 unanswered goals on their way to a 4-3 win. Boys basketball fell to Winona 80-74.

    The Austin Bruins are in a fight for 1st place in their division this weekend. The Bismark Bobcats and the Bruins are tied for the Central Division lead and the 2 teams will battle it out in a 2 game series this weekend. Game 1 gets underway tonight at Riverside Arena. The Bruins will also look to tame the Cats on Saturday night in Austin. Both games get underway at 7:05.

    Dustin Wolf made 26 saves, Jonathan Huberdeau ended a scoring drought and the Calgary Flames beat the surging Minnesota Wild 4-1 last night. The Flames handed the Wild their first regulation loss since Nov. 6. Minnesota was 10-0-2 during the run. Yakov Trenin scored for Minnesota, and Filip Gustavsson made 26 saves. After a travel day today, the Wild will take on the Canucks in Vancouver on Saturday.

    Tomorrow on Tiger Sports Saturday, we will be live from the 41st annual Geneva Wild Game Feed. We will have interviews from some of the organizers and our BiWeekly Austin Bruins Insider.

    Julius Randle had 28 points and nine rebounds, carrying Minnesota on a quiet night from Anthony Edwards, and the Timberwolves beat the New Orleans Pelicans 125-116. Edwards finished with just 11 points in 31 minutes. He scored a season-high 44 points on Tuesday. Naz Reid added 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Timberwolves, who won their fourth straight. Rudy Gobert had 15 points and 12 rebounds, and Donte DiVincenzo also had 15 points. The T-Wolves will return home and take on the LA Clippers on Saturday.

    The Minnesota men"s hockey team matched its season high with six goals and powered past Ohio State, 6-3. Brody Lamb led the way with a three-point effort, while Beckett Hendrickson and Brodie Ziemer each added two points to back a 32-save performance from Luca Di Pasquo.

    Thursday night football saw the Motor City Kitty's lay the smack down on the Dallas Cowboys in a 44-30 win at Ford Field. And Speaking of football.     The Minnesota Vikings anticipate that starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy will return this week from concussion protocol to face the Washington Commanders. McCarthy was a full participant in practice Wednesday, keeping him on track to play in Sunday's game. Head coach Kevin O'Connell said that McCarthy was symptom-free after missing Week 13 and that he needed to go through a full practice to officially clear concussion protocol. He completed that practice Wednesday. OT Christian Darrisaw (knee) was also a full participant. The walking wounded for the Vikes is a concern as DL Levi Drake Rodriguez (neck) G Blake Brandel (concussion) RB Ty Chandler (knee) DE Jonathan Greenard (shoulder) S Theo Jackson (neck) RB Aaron Jones (shoulder) C Ryan Kelly (hip) S Josh Metellus (shoulder) DL Jalen Redmond (hip) were all limited in practice.

    Cade Tyson had 17 points and eight rebounds to help Minnesota upset No. 22 Indiana 73-64 on Wednesday in the Big Ten debut for both head coaches, the Gophers" Niko Medved and the Hoosiers" Darian DeVries. Langston Reynolds scored 17 points and Isaac Asuma added 15 for the Gophers.

    The Minnesota Timberwolves are still in the New Orleans as they face the Pelicans again tonight at 7 pm. In their last meeting just 2 days ago, the T-Wolves won in overtime 149-142. Tipoff is set for 7 pm.

    Albert Lea Tiger athletics, boys basketball fell to Triton 73-64. Girls basketball hosting Worthington found themselves in a tight battle before falling 39-37. As heard here on POWER 96 Tiger boys hockey fell behind early to Mankato West and just couldn"t catch up as the Scarlets put 32 shots on goal in a 4-1 win.Tiger teams are off today.     Former Minnesota Viking Adam Thielen is headed to Pittsburgh. The Pittsburgh Steelers claimed wide receiver Adam Thielen off waivers. Thielen requested his release from the Minnesota Vikings after being traded back to Minnesota from the Carolina Panthers ahead of the season. Thielen was a healthy scratch in the Vikings" 26-0 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, which prompted the release request, as he wanted to go to a team where he could play a big role in his final NFL season. Theilen could have a chance to play in the Steelers matchup against the Ravens on Sunday. Both temas are 6-6.

    It took overtime, but the Timberwolves left the big Easy with a dub winning 149-142 on the road. Anthony Edwards put up 44 for the Wolves.

    Jesper Wallstedt made 33 saves to record his fourth shutout of the season in just 10 games as the Minnesota Wild carried their torrid pace from last month into December, emerging with a 1-0 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday. Jonas Brodin scored the lone goal for the Wild, who have achieved at least a point in 12 straight games. The Wild went 11-1-2 in November. Kirill Kaprizov had his goal-scoring streak snapped at five straight games and his points streak ended at seven games, during which he had notched seven goals and two assists. After an off day today, the Wild will take on the Calgary Flames Thursday night.

    Albert Lea Tiger athletics, boys basketball found themselves involved in a nail biter that went down to the final seconds against Dover-Eyota, but the Tigers came up just short taking a 91-88 loss. The boys are right back at it tonight when they hit the road to face Triton. Girls basketball also in action tonight hosting Worthington at 7:30. Also tonight at 7 pm POWER 96 will bring you Tiger boys hockey as the boys look to defend home ice against Mankato West.

    The Minnesota Vikings have placed wide receiver Adam Thielen on waivers. Thielen, a 12-year NFL veteran, is in the midst of what is expected to be his last season and asked Minnesota"s front office to waive him in hopes of finding meaningful snaps elsewhere. Thielen hasn"t recorded a double-digit snap count since Oct. 23, and he did not line up at all during Sunday"s loss to Seattle. While Thielen has asked to test the waters to finish out his career, he emphasized that he will always feel at home in Minnesota. Thielen said “It may be goodbye for now, but it won"t be the last Vikings fans will see of him: “I"ll be back to retire!” Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah said Thielen"s agent asked last week for his release so he could find a more significant role with another club. The Vikings take a 4-game losing streak into Sunday"s noon home game vs. Washington.

    The Timberwolves are in the Big Easy to take on New Orleans tonight. Tipoff is slotted for 7 pm.

    The Minnesota Wild are taking on Edmonton in Edmonton tonight. Faceoff is set for 8 pm. The Wild placed forward Tyler Pitlick on waivers on Sunday. He cleared waivers on Monday and will stay with the team. Pitlick, 34, has played in 15 games this year for the Wild. He has zero goals, zero assists, 11 shots and 35 hits. The veteran forward will be in the lineup against the Oilers. Marcus Foligno now joins Marco Rossi, Vinnie Hinostroza and Vladimir Tarasenko as Wild forwards who are on the IR. Rossi hopes to rejoin the team at some point during their 4 game road trip.

    Albert Lea Tiger athletics, boys basketball will take to the court as the Tigers host Dover-Eyota tonight at 7 pm. Power 96 will be there to bring you all of the action on all of our platforms.

    The Austin Bruins extended their winning streak to 5 games as the black and gold beat the St. Cloud Norsemen 5-1 on Saturday night. The Bruins are now tied for first place with the Bismark Bobcats. The two teams will fight for sole possession of the top spot this weekend as the Bruins will host the Bobcats this Friday and Saturday night at Riverside Arena. Faceoff is set for 7:05 both nights.

    The Vikings were shut out for the first time since Green Bay beat them 34-0 on Nov. 11, 2007 as the Seahawks blanked the Minnesota Vikings 26-0 for their first shutout victory in more than a decade. Max Brosmer, in his first NFL start, threw four interceptions. Brosmer was 19 of 30 for 126 yards and was sacked four times. The Vikings lost their fourth straight and had their second-fewest total yards (162) in a game this season. The Seahawks limited Justin Jefferson, the NFL"s second highest-paid receiver, to two catches for a career-low 4 yards. Jefferson was targeted just 6 times in the game.   With five games remaining, Jefferson still needs 201 yards receiving to make it six straight seasons of 1,000 or more. On Monday morning, it was announced that Adam Thielen has been waved, to allow him to finish out his career with a team that will give him more playing time. This Sunday the Vikes will try their luck against the Washington Commanders at US Bank Stadium. The pre-game will start at 11 with kickoff at Noon.

    Anthony Edwards scored 32 points to became Minnesota"s all-time leader in games with 30 or more points, Julius Randle added 22 points, 12 assists and six rebounds, and the Timberwolves pulled away from the San Antonio Spurs in the fourth quarter of a 125-112 victory Sunday night. Donte DiVincenzo scored 18 points and Naz Reid added 15 for Minnesota, which went 2-0 at home on the weekend after losing three straight on the road. After an off day today, the Wolves head to the Big Easy to face New Orleans on Tuesday.

    The Minnesota Wild are also off today. They will leave town to take on Edmonton Tuesday night.

    Albert Lea Tiger athletics, Both Tiger hockey teams are in action today. The boys will participate in the Turkey Trott Invitational this weekend and today they will take on Simley at 3 pm. The lady Tigers are also on the road to face Gentry Academy tonight at 7. Monday night Tiger Boys Basketball takes over Power 96 as the Tigers host Dover Eyota at the Orrie Jirele Gymnasium at the Albert Lea High School at 7pm.

    The Austin Bruins were in action in a home and home series Wed and Thursday nights. Wednesday night the Bruins took one on the road winning 7-5. The two teams battled it out again in Austin Thursday with the Bruins taking the Turducken Legs with a 5-2 win. After an off day today, the black and gold will travel to St. Cloud to face the Norsemen on Saturday night.

    Yesterday in NFL action Green Bay defeated Detroit 31 to 24, Dallas defeated Kansas City 31 to 28, and Cincinnati defeated Baltimore 32 to 14. Today Ron"s Chicago Bears travel to Philadelphia for a special Friday 2pm game.

    Minnesota Timberwolves come into the matchup Saturday against Boston as losers of three straight games. Julius Randle is averaging 23.4 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.7 assists for the Timberwolves. Anthony Edwards is averaging 31 points, eight rebounds and five assists over the last 10 games. Tipoff is set for 4 pm Saturday. Wednesday the Wolves fell to the Thunder 113-105.

    The Colorado Avalanche visit the Minnesota Wild this afternoon after the Wild beat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-3 in overtime on Wednesday. Kirill Kaprizov has 14 goals and 14 assists for the Wild. Matthew Boldy has nine goals and six assists over the last 10 games.

    Nathan MacKinnon has 18 goals and 21 assists for the Avalanche. Cale Makar has scored five goals and added seven assists over the last 10 games. Today"s game gets underway at 2:30.

    Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy had his second consecutive limited practice of the week on Thursday. He remains in concussion protocol with hopes of being cleared in time to return for Sunday's game against the Seahawks. But Max Brosmer took first-team reps again, and the Vikings re-signed Desmond Ridder to their practice squad on Thursday. The Vikings also practiced without left tackle Christian Darrisaw (knee/foot) and left guard Donovan Jackson (ankle) again. Outside linebacker Jonathan Greenard (shoulder), safety Theo Jackson (neck), safety Josh Metellus (knee/shoulder), and outside linebacker Dallas Turner (hip) remained limited.

    Albert Lea Tiger athletics, the Lady Tiger Hockey team defeated Marshall at the City Arena 4-3. The Tigers were led by Morgan Goskenson who notched 2 goals. Haley Austenson had 2 assists in the game. Tonight, POWER 96 will bring you more lady tigers hockey as the lady's defend home ice against the Northfield Raiders. POWER 96 coverage will begin at 7 pm. Faceoff is set for 7:15. The Tigers thus far are still unbeaten at 5-0. Tiger girls basketball will host Red Wing at 7:30. In other area action, Alden-Conger Glenville-Emmons girls basketball in action Tonight against Mankato Loyola.

    The Minnesota Vikings may be forced to turn to their third quarterback of the season on Sunday. Head Coach Kevin O"Connell announced Monday that starter J.J. McCarthy is in concussion protocol, leaving his status for Week 13 up in the air. O"Connell said McCarthy first reported symptoms during the team"s trip back to Minnesota from Green Bay on Sunday. After getting back to the team facility in Eagan, the Vikings" training staff and medical team evaluated him and determined he needed to be placed in concussion protocol.     DeMar DeRozan scored 33 points and the Sacramento Kings took advantage of Minnesota"s second straight stunning collapse, rallying late in regulation and outlasting the Timberwolves 117-112 in overtime. Anthony Edwards scored 43 points for Minnesota. Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo each had 17, and Naz Reid added 15. The Timberwolves dropped to 10-7. Next up, the Timberwolves will be at Oklahoma City on Wednesday night in an NBA Cup game.

    The girls basketball team will also be in action, as they travel to Rochester to take on the Spartans. Tuesday, the lady Tigers will defend home ice against the Northfield Raiders, and Power 96 will be there for the call again.

    In other area action, Alden-Conger Glenville-Emmons girls basketball opened their season with a 69 to 40 win over Kingsland. Alyvia Newman led the Knights with 26 points and Macy Newman had 22 points. Knight are back in action Tuesday against Mankato Loyola. In State Football action Waseca fell to Annandale 17 to 7 on Saturday to finish as runners up at US Bank Stadium.

    The Austin Bruins swept their 2 game series on the road against Minot. Friday the Bruins dominated ending the night with a 5-1 win. Saturday, Minot put pressure on, but the Bruins came from behind to head home after a 7-5 victory. Next up is 3 games in 4 nights as the black and gold will have a home and home series against the North Iowa Bulls Wednesday and Thursday. The Bruins will host the Thanksgiving game at Riverside Arena. Then Saturday, the Bruins will head to Saint Cloud to take on the Norsemen.

    In Saturday College Football, the Minnesota golden Gophers fell to Northwestern 38-35, while the Iowa Hawkeyes defeated Michigan State 20 to 17.

    Emanuel Wilson rushed for a career-high 107 yards and two touchdowns in his first career start and the Green Bay Packers defeated the Minnesota Vikings 23-6 on Sunday. The Vikings (4-7) were attempting to beat the Packers on the road for a third straight season, something they last accomplished in 1991-93. They instead fell for the fifth time in their past six games. J.J. McCarthy continued his struggles as a first-year starter by going 12 of 19 for 87 yards. Minnesota"s final two series ended with McCarthy throwing interceptions to Isaiah McDuffie and Evan Williams. McCarthy was sacked five times, with four of them coming in the second half.

    The Vikings" only points came on a pair of Will Reichard field goals from 52 and 59 yards. The Vikings will next visit Seattle in the second set of games on Sunday. POWER 96 coverage will begin at 2 pm.

    Jesper Wallstedt made 32 saves for his NHL-leading third shutout - all in the last four games - and the Minnesota Wild beat the Winnipeg Jets 3-0 on Sunday for their fifth straight victory. Wallstedt improved to 6-0-2 and lowered his goals-against average to 1.94, helping Minnesota up its record to 12-7-4. Kirill Kaprizov, Brock Faber and Denis Yurov scored. The Wild will take on Chicago in the Windy City on Wednesday.

    The WNBA held their draft lotery on Sunday, and the Minnesota Lynx grabbed the number 2 spot in the draft. The Dallas Wings secured the number 1 pick.

    Albert Lea Tiger athletics, as heard here on Power 96, the Lady Tigers hockey team remains undefeated after shutting out the Winhawks of Winona 3-0. Tiger goaltender Sienna Murray was awarded player of the game, as she recorded the shutout stopping 18 Winhawk shots. Goskenson, Noble and Hanna Austinson scored for the Tigers who peppered Winona"s goaltender with 45 shots in the game. The Lady Tigers will next face Marshall on Monday, before taking on the Raiders of Northfield on Tuesday night. Power 96 will be there to cover both of those games.

    In area action from yesterday, Owatonna girls basketball defeated Mankato East 70 to 32. Northfield girls hockey defeated Owatonna 4-2. In the Iowa state high school football championships, MMCRU defeated St Ansgar 30 to 17. In Minnesota High School Football, Kasson Mantorville takes on Orono today, looking to win a state title, while Waseca looks to become state champs tomorrow, as they face Annandale at 1pm Saturday.

    The Minnesota Timberwolves enter tonight"s game at 10–5, but they are also 0–5 against winning teams. The Phoenix Suns, a team that"s over .500 (9–6), is definitely capable of ruining Minnesota"s night if the Wolves stroll into the desert acting like their job is already done. That game will get underway at 8 pm.

    The Minnesota Wild are looking to keep their three-game win streak alive when they visit the Pittsburgh Penguins. The teams match up Friday for the second time this season. The Penguins won the previous matchup 4-1. Marcus Johansson has seven goals and 10 assists for the Wild. Matthew Boldy has six goals and four assists over the last 10 games.     Vikings center Ryan Kelly is expected to retake his place as the keystone of the offensive line Sunday in Green Bay. He returns after battling concussion symptoms for the last eight weeks. He initially left Week 2"s game against Atlanta, returned very briefly in Week 4"s game in London against Pittsburgh, but sat out ever since. Kelly suffered several concussions while playing for the Indianapolis Colts, but says he"s confident in both the Vikings medical staff and his own intuition that he"s in the clear returning to action this week.     Julius Randle had 32 points and 10 rebounds and the Minnesota Timberwolves held off a late rally by the Washington Wizards for a 120-109 victory on Wednesday night. The Wolves are now 10-0 this year vs. sub-.500 teams, 0-5 vs. winning teams. The Timberwolves, who have won six of their last seven games, were without forward Jaden McDaniels, who has a sprained left wrist and missed his first game in nearly two years. Naz Reid had 28 points off the bench. After an off day today, the T-Wolves will be on the road to face Phoenix Friday night.

    The University of Minnesota women"s basketball team came up short in a 63-57 loss to the Kansas Jayhawks on the road Wednesday evening. The Gophers had three players score in double figures, led by Tori McKinney, who had 14 points. Mara Braun added 13 points and Grace Grocholski helped out with 12 points, six rebounds and four assists.

    Jesper Wallstedt stopped a career-high 42 shots and three more in a shootout, Matt Boldy scored in regulation and had the lone goal in the tiebreaker in the Minnesota Wild"s 4-3 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes. Wallstedt"s third great showing in a row and 24 blocked shots helped the Wild improve to 5-0-1 in their past six games. Mats Zuccarello scored his first goal of the season on a breakaway 15 seconds into the third to make it 3-1. Zuccarello missed Minnesota"s first 15 games because of lower-body injury, returning to the lineup Nov. 7. Boldy extended his points streak to five games with an unassisted, short-handed goal from the left slot midway through the first period. Minnesota opened the scoring on Brock Faber"s tip-in from Zuccarello less than two minutes into the game. The Wild will head to Pittsburgh for a Friday matchup against the Penguins.

    The Minnesota Twins took a small step toward rebuilding their bullpen Tuesday by acquiring reliever Eric Orze (OrZee) in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays for minor league pitcher Jacob Kisting.

    Orze had a 3.02 ERA and three saves in 33 relief appearances last season for the Rays, with 19 walks, 40 strikeouts and a .244 opponents" batting average in 41 2/3 innings. The 28-year-old right-hander also made 24 appearances at Triple-A Durham, posting a 2.20 ERA with 37 strikeouts in 28 2/3 innings.

    A cancer survivor, Orze was a fifth-round draft pick in 2020 by the New York Mets and made his major league debut for them on July 8, 2024.

    Cade Tyson scored a game-high 22 points, Jaylen Crocker-Johnson had 15 points and seven rebounds, and Isaac Asuma had a season-high 14 points to lead Minnesota (4-1) to a 66-54 win over Chicago State at Williams Arena. Tyson, who entered the night as the Big Ten"s second-leading scorer, led the Gophers in scoring for the fifth time. He was 6-of-13 from the floor, including 3-of-8 from three-point range, and 7-of-8 at the line, while tying his season-high with six rebounds.

    Minnesota next heads to Sioux Falls for a 4:30 p.m. neutral site tip-off at the Sanford Pentagon vs. San Francisco on Saturday.

    Albert Lea Tiger athletics has the boys hockey team getting ready for their season as they scrimmage against Tartan Senior at Tartan Arena. The girls are off until Thursday when they face Winona at the City Arena.

    Naz Reid scored a season-high 22 points and the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the short-handed Dallas Mavericks 120-96 Monday night. Reid scored 10 points in the first quarter and led all scorers with 19 points in the first half. He hit a 3-pointer just before the end of third quarter, capping his 22-point game and sending Minnesota into the fourth quarter with a 32-point lead. Six Timberwolves scored in double figures, including all five starters. Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert scored 15 points apiece and star Anthony Edwards had a relatively quiet night with 13 points on 5-for-14 shooting. The Timberwolves are off today before hosting the Washington Wizards tomorrow.

    The Minnesota Wild are off today. They will host the Carolina Hurricanes tomorrow night at Grand Casino Arena. Faceoff is set for 8:30.

    The Dallas Cowboys don"t have a winning record this season, even after a Monday night blowout of the Las Vegas Raiders, 33-16, but don"t blame Dak Prescott. Like Joe Burrow last season, Prescott is having an MVP-level season but his team"s record will give him almost no shot of winning the award. The Cowboys got four touchdown passes from Prescott and outclassed the Raiders in the road win.

    Albert Lea Tiger girls hockey are now 3-0 on the season after defeating River Lakes on Saturday. The Tigers came home with a 5-1 win. Haley Austinson celebrated her 100th career point during the game. The girls are off until Thursday when they face Winona at the City Arena. All Tiger Varsity teams are off today, but the 7th grade girls Basketball Team will host Mankato East, at Southwest Middle School at 4:30 today.

    In area football action from the weekend, Waseca stayed undefeated on the year, and punched their ticket to the State Championship defeating Dilworth- Glyndon- Felton 14 to 13 on Saturday. They will face Annandale on Saturday at 1pm at US Bank Stadium.

    The Austin Bruins dropped 2 in a row to the Watertown Shamrocks at Riverside Arena over the weekend. Friday night the black and gold fell 4-3. Saturday night the Bruins tried their best to bounce back from a first period 3 goal deficit scoring 2 in the second and notching one more in the 3rd but Watertown refused to give up the lead and took the series with a 4-3 win. This weekend the Bruins are on the road to Minot for a 2 game series against the Minotauros.

    Devin Duvernay"s 56 yard kickoff return in the final minute set up Cairo Santos for his 4th field goal of the game, a 48-yarder as time expired that gave the Bears a 19-17 victory on Sunday after the Minnesota Vikings scored the go-ahead touchdown with 50 seconds left. J.J. McCarthy ended another erratic performance with five straight completions that culminated with a 15-yard scoring strike to Jordan Addison. McCarthy threw 2 interceptions in the game. He finished 16 for 32 for 150 yards and a 47.7 passer rating in his fifth career start. The defense kept the Vikings (4-6) in it the whole way, limiting the Bears to seven of 18 third-down conversions, but the final possession started too deep in their territory to prevent a score. Sunday the Vikings will be in Lambo for a border battle against the Packers. POWER 96 will bring you all the action Sunday at 11 am.

    With the loss the Vikings are now at the bottom of the NFC North, while the Bears with the win and the Lions loss to the Eagles, now sit on top. The Packers are in second, because of their tie earlier in the year.

    Kirill Kaprizov scored on a one-timer from the right side on a power play at 4:50 of overtime to give the Minnesota Wild a 3-2 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday night. Joel Eriksson Ek and Yakov Trenin also scored and Filip Gustavsson made 23 saves to help Minnesota win for the fourth time in five games. On Saturday night, backup goalie Jesper Wallstedt had his second straight 2-0 victory in a home win over Anaheim. The Wild will next host Carolina Wednesday night.

    Albert Lea Tiger girls hockey are now 2-0 on the season after soundly defeating Rochester Mayo last night at the City Arena. The Lady Tigers peppered Mayo with 51 shots in route to a 6 to nothing shutout win. They Ladies will be back in action on Saturday when they take on Rocori up at the Paynsville Arena. Boys hockey will hold a scrimmage on Saturday against Rochester Mayo as they prepare for the start of their season.

    The Austin Bruins in action tonight and tomorrow night as they host the Watertown Shamrocks at Riverside Arena. Faceoff both nights is set for 7:05.

    Byron Buxton, the Minnesota Twin"s star outfielder has bonuses in his contract for his finish in MVP voting. On Thursday, the American League announced Aaron Judge as MVP, Cal Raleigh as runner-up and then shared how everyone below them in the voting finished.

    Buxton was 11th place. The contract bonuses for Buxton only go through 10th place. If he had finished one spot higher, Buxton would've earned $3 million.

    Thursday night football saw the New England Patriots fend off the New York Jets 27-14. With the win, the Patriots improve to 9-2 on the season.

    The Minnesota Timberwolves are back in action tonight as they host the Sacramento Kings at the Target Center. Tipoff is set for 7 pm.

    The Minnesota Wild have been enjoying a few days off to try to right the ship before their schedule picks up. The Wild will get back to work Saturday night when they take on the Anaheim Ducks at 5 pm at the Grand Casino Arena. The 7-7 Wild are hoping the return of Mats Zuccarello. Zuccarello missed the first 15 games after having surgery to repair a lower body injury.

Tiger football standout Sam McGill was selected to play in the Minnesota Vikings High School All Star Game for Team South. That game will take place at US Bank Stadium December 13th at 1 pm.     The Minnesota Vikings designated center Ryan Kelly for return from injured reserve by opening his practice window on Wednesday, a significant step forward in their careful approach to the 10th-year veteran"s concussion history. The Vikings have three weeks to evaluate Kelly before they must decide whether to activate him or shut him down for the remainder of the season. Coach Kevin O"Connell, who made the cautious decision to place Kelly on injured reserve five games ago, said he handled his recent workouts well enough to justify the next step in the recovery process. Kelly will wear a Guardian cap, the soft-shelled helmet pad that some players choose for extra protection. Outside linebacker Jonathan Greenard, who left the last game with a shoulder injury, did not practice on Wednesday. O"Connell said he believes Greenard, who has not missed a game in two seasons with Minnesota, has a chance to play on Sunday. The Vikings will face division rival Chicago Bears Sunday.     Mark Mitchell scored 18 points to lead five in double-figure scoring, and Missouri pulled away midway through the second half and beat Minnesota 83-60 on Wednesday night.     Albert Lea Tiger girls hockey had a bit of nail biting everything last night before the Tigers scored short handed with seconds left to play avoiding overtime and winning 6-5 over Luverne.     Collin Graf scored 2:41 into overtime and the surging San Jose Sharks came back to beat the Minnesota Wild 2-1 on Tuesday night. Matt Boldy had a second-period, power-play goal for Minnesota, which had won two in a row and four of five since losing five straight to end October. Filip Gustavsson stopped 16 shots. Boldy"s ninth goal of the season was a one-timer off a cross ice pass from Mats Zuccarello, who has two assists in three games after missing the season"s first 15 contests with a lower-body injury. For Boldy, it was his fourth goal in four games. He"s scored five times on the power play as Minnesota continues to excel with the man advantage. The Wild are off until Saturday when they host the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.

    The University of Minnesota women"s basketball (3-0, 0-0 Big Ten) defeated the Marquette Golden Eagles 90-47 at Williams Arena last night. The Gophers had four players score in double figures, led by Grace Grocholski, who had 19 points and eight rebounds. Tori McKinney tacked on 16 points and two steals and Sophie Hart chipped in as well with 14 points and two steals. Mara Braun"s seven assists were the most for the Gophers. Amaya Battle also contributed with seven assists of her own. Battle is now two assists away from a career 500 assists. Minnesota did an excellent job taking care of the basketball, dishing out 24 assists while turning the ball over eight times.

    The Minnesota Vikings are coming off of a tough loss in Week 10, but they"re being favored by the oddsmakers to bounce back this week and complete a season sweep of a division rival. According to the FanDuel Sportsbook, the Vikings are a 2.5-point favorite over the Chicago Bears when the two teams meet this Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium. The over/under for this one currently sits at 45.5 points.

    Following their 27-19 loss to the Baltimore Ravens this past Sunday, the Vikings currently have a record of 4-5, putting them in last place in the NFC North and making them the only team in the division with a losing record.

    The Minnesota Wild will host the San Jose Sharks tonight. The San Jose Sharks will attempt to keep a three-game win streak alive. Marcus Johansson has six goals and nine assists for the Wild. Kirill Kaprizov has five goals and seven assists over the past 10 games.

    Anthony Edwards had 35 points and six assists as the Timberwolves beat the Jazz 120-113 on Monday night for Minnesota"s second win over Utah in four days. Minnesota, which beat Utah 137-97 on Friday and topped Sacramento 144-117 on Sunday, has won three straight games and five of its last six. Edwards posted his ninth straight game of 30 or more points, marking the longest stretch of 30-point games against the Jazz for any NBA player. Julius Randle added 27 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists for Minnesota. Rudy Gobert chipped in 14 points and 12 boards. The Timberwolves have earned themselves a nice break and will next host Sacramento on Friday.

    On a Monday night when the Eagles' offense did very little, the defense made sure it didn"t matter. Philadelphia had its best defensive effort of the season at Green Bay and left Lambo with a 10-7 win. The Packers didn"t score for the first 54 minutes of the game and now find themselves in 3rd in the NFC North behind Detroit and Chicago. The Vikings hold the last spot and will face the Bears on Sunday.

    Nikolaj Ehlers scored 46 seconds into the second period and goalie Frederik Andersen overcame a poor start to stop the final 18 shots he faced as the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Minnesota Wild 4-3 on Thursday night. Matt Boldy, playing in his 300th NHL game, scored two goals and Brock Faber had one for the Wild, who had won two in a row. Filip Gustavsson, who recorded a shutout last season in Raleigh, made 23 saves. The teams combined for seven goals on 12 shots through the first minute of the second period. There were three goals in a 52-second stretch in the first period and then each team scored in the first 46 seconds of the second. The Wild move on to New York to take on the Islanders tonight.

    The Minnesota Timberwolves play the Utah Jazz in an NBA Cup in-season tournament group play matchup. Minnesota went 49-33 overall and 11-5 in Northwest Division play a season ago. The Timberwolves allowed opponents to score 109.3 points per game and shoot 46.0% from the field last season. Utah went 17-65 overall and 3-13 in Northwest Division play during the 2024-25 season. The Jazz gave up 121.2 points per game while committing 18.9 fouls last season.

    The Minnesota Vikings are coming off their biggest win of the week after defeating the Detroit Lions. It was also the week in which they were the healthiest compared to past weeks.     OG Anunoby scored 25 points, Jalen Brunson had 23 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds, and the New York Knicks spoiled Anthony Edwards" return to the Minnesota Timberwolves" lineup with a 137-114 victory on Wednesday night. Edwards scored 15 points in 29 minutes after missing four games with a strained right hamstring, and the Wolves were outscored by 25 points when he was in the game. There wasn"t much the All-Star guard could have done to keep the game competitive. The Knicks outworked the Timberwolves, turning 21 offensive rebounds into 31 second-chance points, and outscored them 83-56 after trailing by four at halftime. Julius Randle scored 32 points and Donte DiVincenzo had 21 in the arena that was their home before they were sent to Minnesota before last season in the deal that brought Karl-Anthony Towns to New York. Towns finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds. After an off day today, the T-Wolves will host Utah on Friday.

    The Minnesota Wild are in action tonight in Carolina to take on the Hurricanes at 6 pm.

    The Twins" 2026 spring schedule, their first under new manager Derek Shelton, features 33 total games, including three home exhibitions and 30 Grapefruit League contests, 15 at home. Minnesota's home opener will be on Friday, Feb. 20 against the Univeristy of Minnesota Golden Gophers. The Twins will host the Red Sox for their Grapefruit League opener on Saturday, Feb. 21, the first of four meetings with Boston for the Fort Myers "Chairman's Cup."

    Marcus Johansson scored at 3:38 of overtime with the goal off its moorings and the Minnesota Wild overcame a last-second tying goal to beat the Nashville Predators 3-2 on Tuesday night. The Predators goalie knocked the goal out of place as he backed up on a rush. Johansson"s first shot hit the moving net and he got the puck back and slid it across the line. After a review, the goal was ruled good, infuriating the Nashville players and coaches. Minnesota closed a six-game homestand with consecutive victories after dropping the first four. Kirill Kaprizov and Zeev Buium scored power-play goals for the Wild, and Gustavsson made 32 saves. The Wild are off tonight before hitting the road toface Carolina Thursday.

    The 15th manager in Minnesota Twins franchise history met the media on Tuesday at Target Field. Derek Shelton, 55, returns to the Twins, where he was the club"s bench coach in 2018 and 2019, after leading the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2020-25. He"s the first manager the Twins have hired to have prior MLB managing experience since Gene Mauch in 1976. Shelton takes over for Rocco Baldelli, who was fired at the end of this past season, despite posting a 527-505 record with three AL Central titles in his seven years leading the team.
